Akrapovič’s latest supercar exhaust is for the Ferrari 488 GTB – one of the most technologically advanced cars the Italian marque has ever produced – and the Slovenian performance exhaust manufacturer has developed a system to take this impressive car to new levels of excitement.
Akrapovič successfully developed a system for the Ferrari 458 Italia and Spider, but the task of creating a performance exhaust for the new 488 GTB was a completely different challenge and one that the Slovenian factory rose to with impressive results. Using state-of-the-art manufacturing and design techniques, plus the latest innovations in materials and sound engineering, Akrapovič has produced an exhaust that reduces weight, increases power, and offers a unique soundtrack.
The Slip-On Line (Titanium) exhaust has been constructed using high-grade, ultra-lightweight special titanium alloys, with parts cast at Akrapovič’s in-house foundry, providing a weight reduction of 35.2% over the stock exhaust. To release the power from the Ferrari’s V8 turbo engine, the Slip-On Line has larger-diameter tubes to assist airflow and a different system configuration to lower backpressure, all designed to increase the performance levels of this already impressive car. Akrapovič’s sound engineers have also worked intensely to create a tone perfectly suited to the car without raising the levels. The appearance of the system is finished with a carbon-fibre outer sleeve on the tailpipes, all designed to increase the look of the exhaust and the rear of the Ferrari 488 GTB. The Akrapovič Slip-On Line is ECE type-approved and comes with easy-to-install instructions, making it a simple plug-and-play operation to take the first step in the exhaust tuning process.
The Slip-On Line exhaust can be further enhanced with the addition of the optional link pipe sets, with or without catalytic converters. The further tuning opportunities offered by these stainless-steel link pipes take the Ferrari 488 GTB on to even greater performance levels. The optional link pipe set with catalytic converters features 200 CPSI high-flow high-quality metal cats and larger insulated tubes. This delivers an increase in performance due to less restricted flow through the cat and lowered backpressure, resulting in increased power. Sound levels will also be enhanced with an increase of 10 dB in external sound performance, and this emphasizes the character of the engine to provide more of the traditional V8 flat crank feel and add a greater feeling of listening pleasure, especially at high revs.
The optional link pipe set without catalytic converters takes the 488 GTB to even greater heights, giving it the ultimate in sound performance and sportiness. The Akrapovič sound engineers have taken the tuning further and developed a sound that is very close to that of the 458 Italia, giving it a tone similar to a naturally aspirated V8 power plant. Constructed with larger-diameter straight tubes, it is designed to reduce backpressure to a minimum and ensure that the highest engine tuning potential for optimal power increase is achieved. When fitting the optional link pipe sets, either with or without catalytic converters, remapping the car’s ECU is necessary.
The Ferrari 488 GTB is a truly inspiring car, and the addition of the Akrapovič Slip-On Line will take it to new levels of performance and increased aural enjoyment. When the optional link pipe sets are added, the system moves on to even greater heights.
